There is a provincial recreation area a short 3.5kms from my home.  On my many visits over the years, I often thought about how under-utilized it is.  There were many times that I was the sole hiker on the trail.

The park offers opportunities for hiking, biking, bird and animal watching, picnicking and more.  I visited the Waskahegan Staging Area today for a short hike.  The Neon Lake / Lost Lake loop is a short 3.8kms but just the right length for a quick, peaceful nature outing.

The sky was blue and the trees were still.  The lake surface was as smooth as glass.  I heard chickadees, crows, cranes, geese and robins throughout the forest and overhead.

The last time I was at the park, we were trying out new x-country skis in the set tracks.  Today, all the snow was melted and there were only a couple of wet areas on the trail itself.  The creeks are flowing and the water level is higher than usual in Neon lake.

I met up with two people walking their dogs and a young couple with a baby in a carrier.  It was nice to see more than me enjoying the spring weather today.
