The blue jays were busy this morning. They found the remnants of a peanut bell that the pileated woodpecker was working on. Their calls drew me to the window.
As I watched the action, they swooped down from the treetops and landed on the table. Their beaks loosened chunks of peanuts that were as large as their heads. It was comical to watch them fly with their prize find.
I counted four of them taking turns at the feeder. One would land at the feeding station, grab some grub and fly away. The minute it would take off, the next one waiting patiently on the stand would fly down to feed.
I wasn't the only one watching the birds this morning. A furry intruder was lurking on the fence. That smiling stray cat that visited a couple weeks ago was back and his eye on my feathered friends.
