The sky has been cloudless the past two evenings and I've had the opportunity to spend more time than usual outside after dark.  I was not aware that there was a meteor shower going on until I actually witnessed it.  Beautiful.  That's all I can say.

The news reports usually let everyone know when things like this are going to happen and I try to stay up to watch but it is either cloudy or I fall asleep.  This time I got to see it because I've been outside pumping out a water tank so it does not flood my driveway.

I called the county utility company this afternoon to ensure that all the water was not coming from a broken water line.  Thank goodness that was not the case!  I was envisioning a backhoe on my driveway and a very huge bill before Christmas.  It turned out to be ground water that is running like a little spring into the sump pit.  The temperature is getting colder so I'm hoping that it will slow the water flow.  There's always something exciting happening out here.

I moved a bird feeding station off my deck and confused the pileated woodpecker.  It flew in and landed on the deck railing.  It's head moved left and right as if searching for the peanut bell that it was devouring.  I guess it was too much work to find the spot that I moved it to so it went with a sure thing; the old snag filled with tasty grubs.

Seven deer came into the yard yesterday.  The aggressive doe was not thrilled with so many snouts in the food dish so
she would rear up on her back legs and try to scare the others away.  Most times it did not work.

My granddaughters are so used to seeing the deer in the yard now that they don't run to the window anymore.  This weekend I heard "Gramma, the deers are here again."
