I prefer to balance my life on a daily basis; to make each day count as it unfolds. My hectic work life is counter balanced with a relaxing home life. That is one of the reasons for choosing to build a home in an area that I love; close to trails and lakes. It is the reason for the choices made in my home for paint color, for cabinets, for furniture, etc. I chose all those items with relaxation in mind. It provides me with a weekend get away every week. My own personal lodge to escape to.
I make sure that all my errands and chores are done by the time my weekend rolls around so I am free to play. There are days when I'll pack a lunch and snacks before heading out to the trails for a whole day. I wander, taking in the landscape around me.
The quiet of the forest cancels out the noise of a busy work week. I stop and admire the little things. I pull out the camera and record my day. I have no daily agenda. I don't take a watch. The outings are my weekly therapy sessions; my mental health days. I forget about everything and concentrate solely on the day.
When I return home, I feel rejuvenated. My mind is clear and I am more appreciative of the world around me. In my world, it's the little things that matter. The quiet flight of a butterfly. The gentle breeze in the treetops. The smell of a bonfire. The sound of a gentle rain. The sparkle of the winter snow.
I guess if I was to make a resolution it would be to continue to love my simple life.
