My backyard beauties must have missed me while I was away.  I got home to find a couple of them on the driveway looking in the direction that I come from when I return from work.  The first thing that I did before going into the house was fill the food dish.  I didn't even make it inside the house before it was full of deer snouts.  They were hiding in the forest behind my yard, watching and waiting for the refill.

One of the mamas has a mean streak.  She reared up and stomped down on a couple of heads so they would move and she could eat.  The two that she kept chasing away, hung back and ate all the grain that was knocked onto the grass.  They probably got more than those fighting for a spot at the food dish.

What fun it is to watch them feed!  Their distinct personalities make it easy to recognize who is who.  They have been daily feeders since I removed the sprinkler motion sensor.  It's going to be an entertaining winter.  Now I'll have to come up with a use for all the 'fertilizer' that they are leaving behind.
