I was beginning to think that the big snow would never come but it finally did.  I shoveled about 10 inches of snow off the driveway last night.  It was beautiful out; no wind, no noise.  I went out at 10:30pm and came in at midnight.  It was a good thing that we had some melting days before this because there would not have been room for all this snow.  The banks are getting pretty high.

The deer tracks that criss-crossed the backyard were covered over and the evergreen branches are sagging once again.  I managed to get the Christmas lights on one tree before the snow started falling.  The deer did come back since the snow stopped falling.  From the looks of their trails, they had to check out the tree.

The drive to work today was pretty as a postcard.  Snow covered the tree branches creating a scene that will last only until the wind starts blowing.

A young moose was foraging for food along the roadside.  I'm hoping that it won't hang out on the road, licking salt.  If it chooses to do that, it could meet the same fate as the young one that got hit by a vehicle late last week.  The carcass is now providing food to a number of scavengers; magpies, ravens and crows.

When I got home today, two deer were at the bird feeders.  I pulled into the driveway and they scattered.  The food tubs were almost empty. I refilled them and 10 minutes later, 4 of them came to feast.  I've used up three quarters of the sack of feed.  It's almost time to pick up another one.

I've been watching the forecast for the weekend.  I'd love to play in all that snow but it might be too cold.  I saw -31C for an overnight low later this week.  That means it will be about -35C here.  Brrr.  Maybe I'll light the wood stove instead.
