That's it.  I'm spending the day outside tomorrow.  I don't care if it's -30C.  I don't care if it's snowing.  I haven't been on an outdoor adventure for a week and I'm getting a little snarly.  With the days being so short, it's dark when I leave for work and dark when I'm coming home.  The two days that I started work later, I had Christmas shopping to do.

I made sure that all the errands were done today so it's a free day tomorrow.  The morning started off great.  About 15 minutes after I filled up the bird feeders, I walked by the kitchen window and noticed five deer in the backyard; two does and three fawns.  Two of the little ones have been in the yard before.  I just love the furry one.  When it looks at me, I can see mischief in those big brown eyes.

I don't have a means of hanging the bird feeders higher, so each day I'm having to refill them so the chickadees have something to eat.  When I was out there this morning, one landed on the hook and watched me pour the seeds in.  I'm sure it wouldn't take long for me to train them to eat out of my hand.

On the way home from town today, two moose were close to the Wilderness Centre.  One crossed in front of me and began running through the deep snow.  It was truly something to see.  Those long, clumsy looking legs proved to be quite useful in all that snow.

The moose in front of me ran along the fence line until it ended.  At the corner, it ran off into the trees.  I looked in the rear view mirror and saw that the second one had jumped the barbed wire fence and was taking the long way across the field to get to the other one.

It was a great day for animal watching.  I just wish it was from the trails instead of inside the house or inside my vehicle.  I have five days off next week and am looking forward to spending time outside on each one of them.
